German Shorthaired Pointers

About the Breed

The German Shorthaired Pointer is a medium sized gun dog bred for use on both land and in water. They are powerful, athletic dogs with a good reputation as either a working dog or a family pet. Their short coat means frequent grooming is unnecessary.

An intelligent dog that likes having a job to do, the German Shorthaired Pointer is best suited to families who enjoy an active, outdoorsy lifestyle. The breed is also capable of forming strong bonds with its owner which means it does not like being left alone for long periods of time.

The breed’s intelligence makes it easy to train, but also quick to pick up bad habits. This means training should start at a young age and remain consistent.
